Cooper, Andrew Jackson

Information about my great-great uncles, Sgt. Andrew Jackson Cooper and Private Elijah Lewis Cooper, both of whom served in Company E, 35th Mississippi Infantry.

A. J. Cooper enlisted in Neshoba County, Mississippi March 6, 1862. He was captured and paroled at Corinth and Vicksburg. He was later captured at Nashville on December 13, 1864 and sent to Camp Douglas, IL for the duration of the war.

E. L. Cooper enlisted in Neshoba County, Mississippi May 10, 1864, a few days prior to his 17th birthday. He died of a fever at Fairgrounds Hospital, Macon, Georgia a little over a month later on June 28, 1864.

The foregoing information is from official documents obtained from the Mississippi State Archives.
