Welcome to
Neshoba County, MS!
I am LeFloris Lyon, coordinator for
this county site. I hope you enjoy
your visit and find the work of Marsha Bryant, in addition to my efforts helpful. Please email me if you have any
suggestions or contributions you would like to make.
Neshoba County was
formed from Choctaw Cession in 1833, as a result of the Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek.
Neshoba (originally Nashoba) is the Choctaw word for wolf. The county seat is Philadelphia.
I am unable to do additional
research on your families.
I do not live in Neshoba County Mississippi and do not have access to records. I post everything
that is contributed, for all to use. If you have a specific question
about your ancestors or Neshoba County, please post a query on the
query
board or join the email list (instructions below).
Please check the links
on the left. Those are your links to all of the information
that is available on this site. Below are brief descriptions
of those pages.
"Addresses" is
the page that you can find important addresses in Neshoba
county. If you have corrections or additions, please send
them to me.
"Births"
begin in 1842 on "Submitted Births." There is also
a page that will help you compute birth dates from cemetery
records. Death records begin in 1847 on "Submitted
Deaths." Records in Mississippi did not begin until
1921.
The "Church"
and "Cemetery" records are listings of all of the
churches and cemeteries in Neshoba. I have many cemeteries
online that have the names of people that are buried in
them. Those are all listed in the links section under
"Cemeteries." If you have records you'd like to
add, please send them to me!
"FAQ" are
questions that I often get from researchers. I've answered
them on line. If you have questions, check here first!
"First
Families" is where you can post your Neshoba family
ancestor information. If your ancestor lived in Neshoba
prior to 1900, you may send information to me to post. There
is also a place to find and post Personal Genealogy Sites of
Neshoba Researchers.
"Marriages"
are posted from 1877-1920. These are in several forms: By
Groom, by Bride and by White/Black/Indian. You may also post
your ancestor's marriage information if they were married in
Neshoba and not listed in the index.
The "Land
Patents" records are land patents copied from the
Government site. They are in alphabetical order by last
name.
The "Military
Records" contain Civil War Rosters and information
about individual soldiers.
The
"Resources" section is a page that contains
resources available for the Neshoba researcher. It includes
books for sale, helpful links and lookup volunteers.
The "Surnames"
page is where submitters can send the surnames they are
researching. I post those names along with the submitter's
email address.

Researchers" is a place for beginners to look to find
where to begin research in Neshoba. If you have additional
tips, please send them to me.
Finally, the "Towns
