Pernicia Irene (Nash) Alexander, aka P.I (Nash)
Cowan/Cohen; born circa 1855.
J. T. Alexander married widow Pernicia Irene (Nash) Cowan in Neshoba County on
17 August, 1887. Pernicia was my g.g.grandfather's youngest sister. I know
that Pernicia had at least two children from her first marriage... one child
born in 1880 was named Maud Cohen/Cowan. An earlier child born in 1878 had
died shortly after childbirth (I have an 1878 letter that discusses this and
Perry Irene's recuperation).
Pernicia Irene Alexander was the youngest child of Ira N. and Lucy Nash of
Neshoba County. Ira N. Nash (1805-1877) was a farmer, mill operater and one
time representative to the MS State Legislature.
J. T. Alexander may have been the son of J. W. and A. T. Alexander of
Coffadeliah in Neshoba County. If so, and if the 1880 census is correct, he
was 12 years younger than wife Irene.
I have an 1887 court affidavit written by my g.g.grandfather that shows
Pernicia Irene Alexander living in nearby North Bend community of Neshoba
County in 1887. I also have a photograph of Pernicia Irene (Nash) Alexander
taken before her marriage in the 1870s.
Anyone connected to this family please e-mail me.
