LOCATION:
Cooksey Cemetery is located in
Neshoba County on gravel road #165
about a mile from Road #602. The cemetery is on private property but
the
owners have been most accommodating to visitors.
This old abandoned cemetery was restored last year by Cooksey
descendents after it was declared historically significant by the
Mississippi Department of Archives.
The cemetery was cleared of many years of debris, a sign/gate was
erected, headstones were placed on graves where the identity was
known, and all other graves were marked with white crosses. To date
about 25
graves have been located in the cemetery.
Cooksey family members are interested in knowing the identities of
other families buried in the cemetery.
